In my first trimester, morning sickness haze, I completely forgot to post about our incredible weekend in Boracay, Philippines that happened before my parents’ visit last November! I’m not sure how I forgot about it because it was such a relaxing trip with the most gorgeous beach we’ve ever visited.
Leading up to traveling to the Philippines, we got recommendations for Boracay, El Nido, Coron, and Cebu. All of them looked like great places to visit, so we did a little research and decided on the island of Boracay. In 2018, Boracay closed to all visitors for 6 months so the government could take care of major renovations and resolve the environmental issues stemming from constant tourist abuse. The closure definitely paid off because everything was pristine and well respected when we went!
Boracay’s famous White Beach is split into three stations with accommodations and restaurants covering a wide range. Station 1 is known for its luxury resorts, Station 2 has the most shops, restarants, and lots of hotel options, and Station 3 is the most affordable so it’s quite popular with backpackers. We ended up staying in the middle of Station 2 at The District Boracay, with access to numerous food options and the stunning beach right outside our front door.
Our favorite places to eat during our long weekend were Cha Cha’s (delicious lunch with the cutest menus), Spicebird (the best dinner! If you only have 1 meal in Boracay, make it here), and finishing with mango desserts at Halomango (if you like mango you cannot miss this shop).
Ryan’s pleasant surprise of the trip was being able to sign up for a scuba diving afternoon! He got certified right before we moved to Singapore, and is always looking for opportunities to get in the water on our trips. Unfortunately, I’m terrified at the thought of learning to scuba dive so Ryan has to be the one to jump on researching and making it happen. Luckily for him, our hotel was helpful in suggesting where he could sign up and I could also hang out on the boat. The water was refreshing, and it felt nice to enjoy Boracay off of the beach for a few hours.
Ryan also got to try out kite surfing for the first time, we got relaxing massages, and we spent lots of time lounging on the beach reading.
Boracay was a breathtaking island to visit that we would happily return to! Or maybe we should visit some other gorgeous beaches in the Philippines first?
