I can’t believe we are already at 35 weeks! Baby girl is going to be here before we know it, and I am equally excited and nervous for her arrival. I’ve read many suggestions on what to pack for my hospital bag with this being our first time, which has been super helpful. I’ll be packing for myself and the little one, and Ryan will pack his clothes separately. One piece of advice I’ve gotten from a lot of moms is not to overpack because you don’t want to be hauling tons of bags around while you’re trying to get your newborn home! Especially without a car here in Singapore, I’m trying to make sure I have the essentials for feeling comfortable, but not being a true bag lady because Ryan will then have to carry all my stuff and the baby.
Here’s what I’m packing for the hospital!
For Me
These slippers to wear around the room and feel a little more cozy. I also have socks from Frida Mom that I’ll be wearing during delivery and probably after.
I’ve read it’s really nice to have your own shampoo/conditioner and toiletries for your showers in the hospital, so I’m packing my own personal skincare productions, shower items, and lotion. I’ll also have nipple cream with me, and some basic makeup if I’m feeling up for using it for photos.
My trusty waffle-weave robe to feel slightly more put together while walking around.
Pajama set I can nurse in – I love how soft this set is, and I’ve been able to wear my usual size throughout pregnancy. I’m also packing this nursing gown if I’m not comfortable wearing pants.
For my going home outfit, comfort is my number one priority. Not to mention, it’s so hot here that the usual “leggings and cozy sweatshirt” combination I see all the time is not going to work. I also have no desire to put anything tight around my body after giving birth, so a loose/flowy dress it is! I’m packing a basic black dress, and leaving the looking cute to the baby.
I know the hospital provides everything you need postpartum, but I also purchased the Frida Mom Labor and Delivery + Postpartum Recovery Kit. It comes with a delivery/nursing gown, peri bottle, disposable underwear, ice maxi pads, cooling liners, witch hazel healing foam, and a bag to carry it all in. One way or another, I figure I’ll be using everything in the kit whether it’s at the hospital or at home.
SNACKS! I read about this from many women — if you deliver in the middle of the night and the hospital kitchen isn’t open and you’re starving, what are you supposed to do?! Actually, I would send Ryan out to find me food (if he’s allowed to leave, and actually as I’m writing this, I’m not positive he will be able to…). But I think if we pack granola bars and some small snacks, we can avoid this.
Ipad for entertainment when there is downtime.
My own pillow. This might not make the cut if we feel like we have too much stuff, but I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
For Baby
Two outfits – an adorable one from Konges SlΓΈjd (top/bottom), and this cute magnetic onesie from some of our best friends. If it’s a super hot day (who am I kidding, it’s always hot), baby girl might just wear the onesie top from the first outfit with some socks and a hat.
Extra plain onesie
Muslin blanket and velcro swaddle
Knotted hat, pair of socks, pair of mittens
I’m checking with the hospital to see what they provide post partum, and if I need to bring my own pads and disposable underwear, I’ll be adding that to my bag. Now, we just need the little one to show up!
